Power Couples

What is considered a threat on the hit TV show Survivor may very likely be the key to success in your real life business.

I was enjoying an episode of Survivor the other night when one of the players made the remark, “We really need to take notice of who the power couples are. Then we need to eliminate one of the partners”.

In this most basic game of life, the contestants have come to the awareness that if there are even just two people who are committed to each other they can influence the whole game.

Entrepreneurs often regard themselves as “Solo” explorers and independent creators, but just how far can one get on their own?

It won’t take any business owner long to realize that they need others to make their business viable and in turn they need to find others who need THEM and thus the circle of business can continue it’s cycle.

There is power in partnership; I believe we are better together, do you?

I recall when Jimmy Pattison, media mogul and Canadian billionaire, started his modest car sales business and he had to get a $40,000 loan from the bank. When he first went in he was just a kid, graduated from university with an idea in his head and passion in his heart. He filled out the paperwork with the bank and submitted it.

He was rejected.

Not wanting to give up, he went to the bank again to plead his case and the loan manager saw something in Jimmy; he saw a dream, a desire, a passion for cars and business. So he helped Jimmy rework some numbers and submitted the application again. A few days later he got the word that his loan was rejected!

Finally, after calling the bank again, the manager offered to have Jimmy come in person to the loans officer and see what they could do if they put their heads together. Three times lucky, he was approved! But was it luck? No, it was the power of connection! To this day Jimmy publicly regards this bank manager as the catalyst to his own success!

Finding Your Strategic Alliance

Who are the strategic alliances in your business? Is there a Mastermind Group you attend where you all support each other? Do you have a partner who gives “lift” to your dreams so they can get off the ground and fly? Do you have even just one special connection that gives you strength, ideas and encouragement?

I once read something in the wisest book of all time, along the lines of ‘Where one can chase away an army of 1000 the power of two can overcome 10,000!’ Just one relationship can yield 10x the results!

Consider your connections and what might be possible.

Strategize a plan for cross-promotions, lift each other up, give exposure to their products or services, host a dinner for brainstorming, refer others to their website, blogs, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. The possibilities are endless and the rewards immeasurable.

I truly believe that in life and business, WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER!
